Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Seattle University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with specializations in Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Technology, including Ethics and Technology, beginning September 2022. Areas of competence are open.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the general history of philosophy, demonstrated teaching excellence, strong scholarly potential, some familiarity with the Catholic intellectual tradition, and the ability to engage with colleagues representing diverse philosophical traditions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses across the curriculum, including the two required philosophy core courses (Philosophy of the Human Person and Ethics) and courses in their specializations for Philosophy majors and for students enrolled in our University Honors Program. They will maintain a productive research program and will provide service to the department, school, and university. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to SU’s new Initiative in Ethics and Transformative Technologies. Ph.D. in Philosophy by September 2022 is required.
