Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Tennessee is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Professor in the area of History of Philosophy.  The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is on the academic semester system, and the default teaching load is four courses across two terms each year. Research and teaching expectations are high. The department’s faculty keeps a dynamic, expanding, and high level of research and publications nationally and internationally. Teaching expectations include introductory, middle-level, and advanced undergraduate courses, graduate teaching in the area/s of specialization and competence, mentoring of graduate student research at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, directing undergraduate and M.A. theses, as well as chairing or being part of dissertation committees. Service is also taken as a substantial part of faculty duties and responsibilities. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

AOS: History of Philosophy, with some preference for specialization in Modern Philosophy. 

AOC: Open, with some desire for ability to teach advanced undergraduate logic. 

PhD in Philosophy must be completed by the position start date.
