Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Dartmouth College invites applications for a two-year residential postdoctoral fellowship, beginning July 1, 2022. We seek someone specializing in Philosophy of Race, African-American Political Thought, or Africana Philosophy. We construe Philosophy of Race broadly to include relevant work in epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, social and political philosophy, history of philosophy, and other subfields. In addition to conducting research, the successful applicant will teach two courses per year. Dartmouth runs on a quarter system, with three 10-week terms per academic year. The department will provide research support and mentorship. Applicants are expected to complete their PhDs by September 1, 2022.

Dartmouth is highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first- generation college graduates. Applicants should state in their cover letter how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Review of applications will begin November 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.
