Job description

The University of Mississippi

Public Policy Leadership.  The Department of Public Policy Leadership at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a tenure track assistant professorship to begin in August 2022.  Successful candidates will advance an active research agenda that incorporates philosophy, public policy, and leadership. They will also teach two of the department’s required courses: PPL 212 “Critical Thinking, Communication, and Public Policy” (which combines instruction in critical thinking and public speaking) and PPL 300, “Ethics, Leadership, and Public Policy,” along with other courses already existing in the curriculum and/or new courses in their area of specialization. A Ph. D. in Philosophy is required at the time of employment, as is a record of excellence in research and teaching.

The Department provides a challenging undergraduate major that prepares high-performing students for positions of leadership in an increasingly complex world.  The interdisciplinary curriculum for the major incorporates economics, geography, philosophy, political science, public administration, and public policy.  The program emphasizes the global nature of responsible decision-making; the ethical imperatives of leadership; critical thinking and communication skills; and the conceptual and methodological skills necessary for careful policy analysis. The Department is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Apply online: https://careers.olemiss.edu. Applications should include a cover letter that should address the applicant’s research, teaching, and ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences and foster inclusivity in a university setting, a curriculum vitae, teaching evaluations (if available), and a list of three references. The review of applications will begin on November 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.  The University of Mississippi has been rated a “best college to work for” by the Chronicle of Higher Education and is an EEO/AA/TitleIX/Section 504/ADA/ADEA employer committed to advancing institutional capacity for equity, cultivating a diverse and equitable community, and fostering an inclusive campus climate (https://chancellor.olemiss.edu/pathways-to-equity/).
