This is a part-time applicant pool posting. Applicants are reviewed based on division need. Part-time Faculty positions will be paid based on relevant experience and education in concurrence with Lane’s Part-Time Faculty salary schedule. Continuation of position is contingent upon grant-funding. Master’s in Philosophy or Humanities with 30 quarter hours, or 20 semester hours of graduate work in Philosophy. Preferred Experience
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/Asian languages and multicultural experience is preferred. A demonstrated commitment to diversity is expected. Position Purpose: To provide high quality instruction that meets established learning outcomes for students in introductory philosophy courses. Essential Functions: Promote and facilitate awareness in developing multicultural and diversity-based curricula. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of student work. Work individually with students during office hours and in other settings to help them with course content questions relating to Philosophy program options and choices. Work with division members and other faculty to help improve student retention, curriculum, instruction, and the learning environment. Must demonstrate an active concern for meeting the needs of students, staff, and the public. Supervision Statement: Reports to Division Dean. May work under the guidance of a Lead Instructor. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to: Advise, motivate, encourage, explain options, and guide students in the learning process; plan, implement, and evaluate professional-technical courses; maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to student learning; establish and maintain effective working relations with faculty, students, and staff; communicate effectively; demonstrate organizational abilities; understanding of time management; well rounded leadership skills; strong communication abilities; and, computer skills, including word processing; analyze and problems solve; write clearly and present information in concise summary reports; prioritize and set long and short-term goals; understand the role of the community college and the diversity of the community college student body.
