Position Description The Department of Philosophy at the University of Washington invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy with AOS: History of Philosophy, and AOC: Ancient Greek Philosophy. This is a full-time, tenure eligible position with an anticipated start date of September 2022. Tenure track faculty have an annual service period of nine months (Sept 16-June 15). All University of Washington faculty engage in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program that complements existing scholarship in the department; teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; serve on dissertation committees and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; actively participate in service to the university, profession, and broader communities; and promote a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. Qualifications Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Philosophy, or a closely allied field, by the start of the appointment. Applicants must provide evidence for excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will conduct research focused on the history of philosophy and be prepared and qualified to teach ancient Greek philosophy at all undergraduate levels. The department is interested in research that is canon-expanding or will offer new perspectives on existing topics, including non-western traditions (such as African/Africana, African American, Buddhist, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, Islamic and Arabic, Japanese, Latin American, and Tibetan philosophy), perspectives grounded in feminist philosophy or philosophy of race, and other projects contributing to a more inclusive history of philosophy. |
