Job description |
Northland College Founded in 1892, Northland College is located in northern Wisconsin on the south shore of Lake Superior. Adjacent to the Apostle Islands and nearly a million acres of national forest, the College’s distinct setting has inspired its commitment to explore the fundamental interconnections of nature, place, and people. The College believes that understanding and addressing complex environmental and social issues requires learning from an array of perspectives, actively participating in community, and engaging in research centered on the most important questions of our time. A commitment to offering an experiential environmental liberal arts education readies Northland graduates for personal and professional success, giving them tools to pursue meaningful lives and preparing them to act with courage in a rapidly changing world. Position Description Northland College is accepting applications for a tenure-track appointment in Philosophy with an anticipated start date of August 2022. This appointment is situated within a small-college Religious Studies and Philosophy program, and the successful applicant will be expected to deliver courses in environmental ethics, ethics, logic, and introductory philosophy. Scholarly interests appropriate to this appointment include environment, science, technology, or climate change. Ultimately, priority will be given to applicants who place a high value on a liberal arts education and teaching. Responsibilities The successful applicant will teach seven courses a year, in a 3-3-1 format, with the final course taught in a 1-month May-term. Service on faculty and college committees, engagement in scholarly activities, and the mentoring of undergraduates as an academic advisor are also expectations of this appointment. Qualifications • Completed Ph.D. in Philosophy or closely related field by August 2022 preferred; ABD candidates considered. • Demonstrated experience, success, and commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. |
