Job description

The Department of Philosophy & Religion at Appalachian State University invites applications from senior scholars for the position of Department Chair beginning July 1, 2022. This is a tenure-track, 9-month position with 12-month duties. Applicants must: (1) have a Ph.D. in the fields of either Philosophy or Religious Studies; (2) have a record of teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for appointment at the rank of Professor (advanced Associate Professors will be considered); (3) have previous administrative experience in a higher education context and a collaborative leadership philosophy; (4) demonstrate success at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence; (5) demonstrate experience in advocating for programs within the university context and recruiting students into degree programs.

The area of teaching and research is open.

The Department offers majors and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies as well as a limited number of graduate courses. The department is linked to other units across the university and makes a significant contribution to the General Education curriculum. There are seventeen tenured/tenure track faculty.
