The Department of Philosophy at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track position in artificial intelligence & ethical theory with research interests in digital cultures, history and philosophy of computing, and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will be able to teach a course in the Intelligence and the Arts and Engineering (IAE) program entitled “Introduction to Digital Intelligence," an innovative project-based course that brings together education in the humanities and computer science. The candidate must have a proven interest in philosophy of mind, and topics at the intersection of philosophy and technology, for example in ethics and technology; have experience with cross-disciplinary approaches and be open to team teaching and collaborative course development.
Experience in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and curriculum development should be highlighted in the application. 2/2 teaching load, both graduate and undergraduate courses. The successful candidate will have a record that indicates strong research potential and demonstrates experience in teaching philosophy. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching (4 courses per year, i.e., 2 per semester), dissertation and thesis supervision, and standard nonteaching duties.
