Job Description

The College of Liberal Arts & Human Sciences at Virginia Tech invites applications and nominations to direct the graduate program in ASPECT (the Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought). ASPECT is a long-standing, collaborative, interdisciplinary Ph.D. program built around the core Departments of History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religion & Culture, with faculty affiliates from departments across the university. Faculty and students affiliated with ASPECT also play key roles in programs under the purview of the
college’s Academy of Transdisciplinary Studies.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured position at the rank of either associate professor or professor in one of the departments in the College of Liberal Arts & Human Sciences and will report directly to the Dean of the college. The position will begin July 1, 2022.

REQUIRED: Earned doctorate in a field within the Humanities or Social Sciences (broadly defined); an academic record that merits a tenured appointment within one of the departments in the college and an ongoing research agenda; a substantial record that indicates academic visibility as well as integration into the professional networks needed to guide future faculty hiring, graduate student recruitment, and the placement of the program's Ph.D. graduates; experience working with graduate students; demonstrable experience in academic administration; a commitment to creating and sustaining an equitable, diverse, & inclusive environment.

● A Ph.D. in the Humanities or Social Sciences (broadly defined);

● Experience working with graduate students;
● Experience in academic administration;
● A commitment to creating and sustaining an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment within the program.

 

Preferred Qualifications

● Successful experience or demonstrated potential in fundraising, outreach, and recruitment of graduate students;
● Experience in faculty mentoring;
● Research and/or teaching strengths in interdisciplinary programs.
