Job description

ROLE of the POSITION

This is a teaching-intensive (4/4), non-tenure track position in the Department of Philosophy at UNLV. Though non-tenure track, the position is continuing and comes with the opportunity for promotion to Associate and Full Professor-in-Residence. The position also comes with commensurate service expectations. The principal responsibility of the position will include teaching multiple sections of either a course in logical metatheory (PHIL 422, a second formal logic course aimed primarily to computer science majors) or a course in Ethics for Scientists and Engineers (PHIL 242, a second-year seminar required of students in the engineering college). The successful candidate will have a strong teaching background in one or both of these areas. Other instructional assignments are possible, in accordance with department needs. The department currently has strengths in analytic philosophy, broadly construed, and the history of western philosophy. We especially encourage candidates to apply who could compliment and diversify these strengths. This would include candidates with instructional interests in (though not limited to) Continental Philosophy, African/Africana Philosophy, Indigenous Philosophy, and other Non-European Philosophy. UNLV also provides opportunities for engaged philosophy projects and community outreach.
