Job Summary: The University of San Francisco invites applications for the Gerardo Marin Diversity Dissertation Fellowship for the 2022-2023 academic year. The Gerardo Marin Diversity Fellowship seeks to increase the presence of currently underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. professoriate by supporting advanced doctoral candidates during completion of their dissertation.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities: Fellows complete their dissertation and initiate an ongoing program of scholarly or creative work while becoming familiar with the usual service responsibilities of a university faculty member. The Gerardo Marin fellows will form a cohort of at least 4 scholars university-wide. Each fellow will be mentored by a senior faculty member, under the guidance of the Dean in partnership with the Senior Vice Provost for Equity, Inclusion and Faculty Excellence. Fellows teach one course in their discipline each semester and engage in service within their school/college or at the university-wide level, depending on interests. The program will provide compensation and limited support for relocation and research-related expenses. Additional support includes access to office space and library privileges, professional development opportunities offered by the USF https://www.usfca.edu/teaching-excellence and https://www.usfca.edu/crase, and a free membership with the https://www.facultydiversity.org/.

Qualifications: Candidates in disciplines in which racial and ethnic faculty are underrepresented at USF will receive special consideration. Candidates must have completed all coursework leading to their doctorate by Summer 2022 and must be considering a career in college teaching in one of the following fields:

College of Arts and Sciences

• Art History / Museum Studies

• Biotechnology

• Design

• Economics

• English

• Pre-1900 Multi-Ethnic American Literatures, Global Long 19th Century, Global Contemporary Anglophone Literatures, Race and Disaspora Studies, and/or Queer Studies preferred

• Environmental justice, environmental racism, and/or Indigenous ecologies preferred

• Fine Arts

• International Studies

• Media Studies

• Performing Arts and Social Justice

• Critical Race Theory, Gender/Queer Studies, African-American Studies, or related research focus preferred

• Rhetoric (Written and/or Oral and/or Digital)

• Sociology

• Theology and Religious Studies

• Specialties in ethics and/or Japanese religions (particularly Zen Buddhism) preferred
