Instructor (EXPIRED)

This position is a full-time teaching assignment in Philosophy. The department offers the following courses: Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics and Society, Critical Thinking and Discourse, Philosophy of Religion, Introduction to Logic, History of Ancient and Medieval and Modern and Contemporary Philosophy; and Ethics, Law and Society. Other responsibilities will include participation in program development and in globalizing the curriculum. Applicants selected for interview must present a brief teaching demonstration and complete a short essay on an assigned topic.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in philosophy; OR

• Bachelor's degree in philosophy AND Master's in humanities; OR

• The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

• Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990) AND

• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous college-level teaching experience.

• Ph.D. in Philosophy.

• Academic specialization in philosophy of law/ethics or logic.

• Interest in the use of technology in the classroom or in teaching online.

SALARY
The starting salary ranges from $59,426 - $81,624 depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
