Job description

Emmanuel College is a coed 17-acre residential college of liberal arts and sciences right in the city of Boston. In the Catholic academic tradition, we challenge our students and faculty to be driven in their pursuit of learning and teaching. We mine the rich resources of science and healthcare around us, and build gateways to that world on campus. Emmanuel enriches lives through powerful real world experiences, from service learning to internships. We believe education empowers people. It transforms their lives. And it opens doors.

Emmanuel College proudly announces the Louise Doherty Wyant '63 Professorship. This professorship was established by the late Louise Wyant and her husband Dr. James Wyant in honor of Sister Anne Cyril Delaney, SND '30, an Emmanuel College Professor. In her teaching and her intellectual breadth, Sister Anne exemplified the values of a liberal arts education and the relevance of the humanities to understanding and changing the world. The Wyant Professorship is held in the humanities.

Emmanuel College is a Catholic, coeducational, liberal arts and sciences college founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1919. Emmanuel is located in the heart of Boston's academic, scientific and cultural communities and is within walking distance of landmarks such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, Symphony Hall and world renowned medical institutions. The mission of the College is to educate students in a dynamic learning community rooted in the liberal arts and sciences and shaped by strong ethical values and the Catholic intellectual tradition.

The College is seeking a senior faculty member with a PhD in philosophy who has a research and teaching focus on ethics. The Wyant Professor will teach one course each semester for upper-class students, manage a public lecture series and partner with the College's Mulvaney Leadership Institute. This Institute is designed to build ethical and effective leaders through the College's academic, student life and leadership programs. The Wyant Professor will work with faculty, students and administrators to enhance the visibility and teaching of ethics throughout the College. The position will be tailored to the strengths and specific talents of the successful candidate. The initial appointment is up to three years with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship and will be a recognized expert in the field.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, current CV, and a list of three professional references. After completing this brief form you will be able to upload your CV and the additionally requested items.
