Professorship (W2) for Philosophy with a focus on Ancient Philosophy

Responsibilities

Applicants are expected to have a research focus in the field of ancient philosophy and be willing to participate in establishing a research group on the subject of norms and standards in the University’s emerging field Causes, Grounds, Reasons.

The successful candidate is further expected to participate actively in academic self-governance and the instruction of students pursuing a teacher training degree in the respective discipline.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Requirements

Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 15 HmbHG.

Additional Criteria

Applicants are expected to have international research experience; to have a successful track record in acquiring external funding, in carrying out externally funded projects, and in publishing in high-quality, peer-reviewed, international publications on ancient philosophy; and to be open to methods and discussions in analytical philosophy.

The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives. Teaching experience in ancient philosophy is expected.

Applicants are also expected to have research and teaching experience in additional fields of the history of philosophy beyond antiquity.

Non-German-speaking post holders are expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment.
