University of Arizona W.A. Franke Honors College and Department of Philosophy

CAREER TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE 

 The W.A. Franke Honors College in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy at University of Arizona, invites applications for a Career Track (non-tenure eligible) Assistant Professor of Practice position in ethics and/or applied ethical reasoning with expertise in medical ethics. 

 The workload distribution load will 60% teaching Honors courses within the Philosophy department and Honors College, 20% service to the unit, college, university, profession, and/or community, and 20% scholarship in pedagogical and curricular innovation broadly speaking.

The successful candidate will

  • Hold a Ph.D. at the start of the appointment
  • A strong record of interdisciplinary and innovative teaching
  • Previous experience working with diverse and underrepresented communities
  • Previous success in collaborative interdisciplinary practice, research, or teaching
  • Previous teaching experience both in-person and online
  • Administrative and research experience

As a faculty member in Department of Philosophy and the Honors College, the individual selected must have experience and expertise with inquiry and evidence-based instructional practices such as active and collaborative learning, and the integration of research as well as modern approaches to assessment and engaged learning.  

The duties and responsibilities of this faculty member will be

  • Teach Honors sections of medical ethics, advanced medical ethics and other applied ethics courses in either Philosophy or the Honors College catalog.
  • Collaborate with both the Department of Philosophy and the W.A. Franke Honors College to develop unique Honors pathways for Philosophy majors and minors within the Department of Philosophy.   Work to increase the number of Honors students pursuing these degree pathways.
  • Support Honors students who are majors in Philosophy to find a thesis advisor and research project. 
  • Serve on committees for both the Department of Philosophy and the W.A. Franke Honors College. 
  • Engage in scholarship centered on the study of pedagogy and teaching in the area of philosophy and/or interdisciplinary education. 

The position includes avenues for promotion to Associate or Full Professor, non-tenure eligible.
