Information about the Department

The Department of Philosophy is a thriving and forward looking department of active researchers (see our newsfeed) and dedicated teachers. The research and teaching areas of our 11 full-time faculty members and several part-time faculty members are together pluralistic, covering an unusually broad swath of analytic, continental, historical, and comparative philosophy. Main areas of focus include philosophy of values, philosophy of the sciences, and philosophy of human identity and difference. There is a teaching mentorship program within the department that limited-term appointees can join. We’re housed in a bright and spacious historical building—a wonderful place to work and study, and abuzz with the activity of our faculty, staff, and students—and our library has recently undergone extensive renovations.
