About The Office Of The Deputy Vice-chancellor Ethics:

The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Ethics is responsible for overseeing the strategy, operations and planning for the organisational units in the Ethics Portfolio. As the Ethics Portfolio has responsibility for enhancing the University's ethical capacity, the Office also takes a lead role in raising ACU's reputation as a hub for ethical thought, activity and advice. Ethical thought is advanced by EthicsFinder, the University's ethics search engine database for the global Catholic community; Ethics activity is represented by the Ethos events spearheaded by the PM Glynn Institute; and ethical advice is provided through the engagement of a suite of ethics consultancy services.

About the role:

As Lecturer (Business Ethics and Culture), you'll support ACU's efforts to enhance organizational and industry understanding and appreciation of the importance of ethical capacities, good culture and leadership integrity. Reporting directly to the Director, Portfolio, Strategy and Operations, you'll work closely in collaboration with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Ethics to develop internal and external opportunities to enhance and provide ethics and culture-focused services and frameworks for organizations, industries and communities.

More specifically the role entails:

  • Liaising and engaging with ACU academics, particularly from within the Faculty of Law and Business and/or those engaged in applied/business ethics, on the
    latest research, scholarship, publications and events/conferences.
  • Identifying, evaluating and promoting key business ethics news, literature, trends, and updates in internal (e.g., Workplace, Ethics Hub) and external forums (e.g. LinkedIn).
  • Assisting in the development and provision of ethics formation lectures, seminars, and/or training sessions for university staff or external groups.
  • Collaborating with Schools/Faculties and the Education and Innovation Centre on curriculum review, improvement, and intensification of ethics content in ACU courses and offerings.
  • Collaborating with and advising the Office of Planning and Strategic Management in recommendations of potential key performance indicators and
    measurements to track ethical capacities and wellbeing.
  • Contributing meaningfully and collegially to the work of the University through participation in meetings, committees and events.

You will need to have:

  • A doctorate in philosophy (or from another discipline with a focus on business ethics) or substantial progress towards a doctorate, preferably with a focus on business/industry ethics.
  • Extensive knowledge of business/industry ethics initiatives, trends and developments.
  • Demonstrated experience building productive relationships and partnerships with scholars, universities, institutions, and networks involved in ethical issues.
  • Desirable: Experience working within a corporate / professional environments, with experience and projects applying ethical insights.
  • Tertiary teaching experience in ethics, with a demonstrated ability in presenting and teaching ethics effectively to non-specialist or corporate audiences.
  • The ability to carry out independent research to identify and curate highly influential business ethics resources.
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with staff and academics from ACU and other universities.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain high levels of scholarly knowledge and scholarship activities in business/industry ethics, particularly within the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Total remuneration valued to $123,584 - $145,913 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $104,430 - $123,298 (pro rata) pa (Academic Level B), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
