Job description |
The Humanities Research Center (HRC) at Rice University seeks to appoint one postdoctoral fellow in Law, Political Thought and the Humanities. The Humanities Research Center is an internationally recognized hub that fosters innovative humanities and arts research at Rice University and builds collaborations with local, national and global partners. We seek emergent scholars whose research aligns with the history of law, philosophy of law or politics, or social and/or political thought, within the broad arena of the humanities: history (regional and temporal field open), philosophy, literature and culture, and historical sociology. Applicants should have experience and enthusiasm about teaching one course per semester at the undergraduate level. The position will be connected with the HRC and a department in the School of Humanities, and closely associated with the Program in Politics, Law, and Social Thought (PLST), an interdisciplinary minor that attracts undergraduate students from across the university interested in both political and social thought and in a pre-law curriculum. The successful applicant will develop courses in the applicant’s field, as well as a “core course” for PLST that introduces students to big questions of politics, law, and society set in a specific context. (Examples of such core courses are available on the PLST website at politics.law.rice.) This position is for the period from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 with the possibility of renewal for a second year (subject to available funding). It is a fulltime position with a 1/1 teaching load and is benefits eligible. The fellow will receive an annual salary of $60,000 and a $3,000 stipend for research and/or relocation to Houston. Work-related activities may include:
