for a one-year postdoctoral research associate position (August 15, 2022–May 16, 2023).

AOS: Philosophy of cognitive science and/or moral psychology; AOC: Open.

Principal Duties: Purdue is a member of the American Association of Universities, and seeks a philosopher of exceptional promise who will contribute to the excellence of our department and college. This position will have no teaching duties associated with it. However, the successful applicant will have grant writing skills, as the primary duties of the position will be to coordinate efforts between faculty to pursue external funding in support of projects associated with the evolution of norms and norm psychology. The position includes a (9-month) salary of $37,174 and an annual research allowance of $1,500.

Qualifications: To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have received a Ph.D. in philosophy or cognitive/social science between September 1, 2017 and June 30, 2022.

Application Procedure: All materials will be submitted electronically through careers.purdue.edu (Requisition 19045) Initial applications will just require submission of a CV and cover letter including short description of candidate’s research agenda and experience pursuing grant funding. Those deemed competitive will be asked to submit further materials, which must include: (i) brief cover letter, (ii) curriculum vitae (including dissertation abstract and research statement), (iii) a writing sample of approximately 8-10K words, and (iv) a diversity and inclusion statement. Letters of reference should not be included in the initial application but should be prepared for quick submission if requested. If letters are requested from the candidate at a later stage, instructions for how to submit letters will be communicated directly to the candidate.

Review of applications will begin May 1, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and a background check will be required for employment in this position. Questions should be addressed to search committee chair, Prof. Taylor Davis ([email protected]).

Purdue University’s Department of Philosophy is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in a separate Diversity and Inclusion Statement, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
