Eslick Chair of Philosophy (EXPIRED)

Duties of the Eslick Chair: 

• Scholarship: The Eslick Chair will be a highly productive scholar, enhancing the department’s standing in the profession.  
• Teaching: Normally, the Eslick chair will teach at least one graduate seminar per year. The typical load in the philosophy department is two courses per semester.  
• Graduate mentoring: direction of PhD dissertations and MA theses, and service on some dissertation and thesis committees directed by others.  
• Leadership in department, college, and university service. 

Qualified applicants must:  

• Hold a PhD degree or equivalent in philosophy  
• Possess a strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship  
• Show strong evidence of an ongoing research agenda  
• Have a proven track record or significant promise as a mentor of graduate students  
• Show evidence of leadership  
• Be able to advance the University’s Catholic Jesuit mission
