Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

Specific Duties

In the working group "Ethics in Information Technology" we deal with epistemological, ethical, political, and social preconditions and implications of digital technologies, with a special focus on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. We cooperate intensively with colleagues from computer science, participate in the development of new technologies, and contribute to the public and political discourse around digitization. Your tasks will consist of basic research in the above-mentioned topic area, but also participation in interdisciplinary research with colleagues from the Department of Informatics. Another component of your tasks is teaching at the interface between philosophy and computer science (4 LVS). We also expect a lively participation in the professional and public discourse on philosophical issues in the context of digital technologies.

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.

As this is a Postdoctoral position, you are expected to have completed your Ph.D. in a relevant field (or be very close to doing so) by the stated start date. We are looking for an empirically interested researcher from philosophy or a philosophically interested researcher from a related discipline such as science and technology studies. You should have research experience in one or more of the following areas: Ethics, esp. computer, data and research ethics; (social) epistemology & philosophy of science, esp. with regard to information technologies; philosophy of computers and technology; value-sensitive design. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the group, you should have a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with colleagues from computer science. Previous experience in this area is an advantage. Further required skills include: great self-motivation, a sense of individual responsibility, the ability to work both independently and in a team, as well as strong organizational, communicative and social skills. Knowledge of research ethics and experience in ethics committees are helpful – a willingness to work in this area is required. We ask you to include 1-2 selected articles and your Doctoral dissertation with your application in addition to the usual documents and supporting evidence (CV, academic certificates, etc.).
