Job description |
The School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University is pleased to announce the availability of a postdoctoral fellowship in philosophy of religion. The fellow will be part of an interdisciplinary team (including an anthropologist, a historian, vision scientists, and several philosophers) studying non-ordinary experiences typically deemed religious. The fellow must have expertise in epistemology and/or cognitive science of religion. Research questions pursued on the grant should include the implications of cognitive science of religion (including the results of experiments conducted by other team members) for the epistemology of religious belief. This fellowship is not intended to support research in political or social philosophy, philosophy of law, or applied ethics (where applied ethics includes but is not limited to bioethics, medical ethics, ethics of technology use, and business ethics). The Fellow will be appointed in the Department of Philosophy in association with Rutgers Center for the Philosophy of Religion (RCPR). The primary responsibility will be to conduct research on one’s own projects, to work with the RCPR leadership to organize a series of meetings of the interdisciplinary team, and to participate in the RCPR reading group and other activities of the Center. The Fellow will also be responsible for teaching one course per year. The Fellow will be appointed for three years. Appointments will be effective September 1, 2022. The Fellow will receive a stipend of $65,000 annually; s/he will also receive Rutgers University health benefits. Fellows must have earned a Ph.D. in philosophy before September 1, 2022. Review of applications will commence on July 1, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Rutgers University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to diversity. Women, minorities, and members of under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. |
