Established by UC Berkeley in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is one of the largest and oldest continuing education    operations in the United States. Extension offers courses for college and professional credit, certificate programs in a variety of fields and noncredit seminars and programs of professional and general interest. As a self-supporting organization, Extension offers more than 1,500 personal enrichment and professional development classes in multiple locations around the San Francisco Bay Area and online, including over 150 online courses. Enrollments total approximately 31,000 annually.

Opportunities

UC Berkeley Extension offers a growing number of courses taught 100% online. Some are taught in fixed-date terms; others are taught on a self-paced, rolling enrollment basis.

Requirements & Qualifications

Instructors in the philosophy and religious studies departments have core competencies in the following areas:

  • Comparative Philosophy
  • Western Philosophy
  • World Religions

Preferred Experience

  • Masters degree in appropriate subject area (Ph.D. preferred)
  • Five or more years teaching experience
  • Online instruction experience

Candidates should have significant professional work experience in the specialty area. Teaching experience and a Master's degree, or Ph.D., in an appropriate field of study is required. Online teaching experience is preferred. Appointments are by agreement for the length of the academic term or upon submission of students final grade for continuous enrollment courses. Salary is on a per-student basis.
