Job description

Figure/Ground Communication (www.figureground.ca) is an interdisciplinary research website investigating central problems across the university environment today through a myriad of approaches in the fields of education, technology and media studies, and the arts, humanities and social sciences. 2012 has been a decisive year for us: we have finalized our transition from being a personal blog to becoming a student-led research website with a staff of +30 collaborators and a database of +150 interviews. Inspired by Bryan Magee‘s philosophical interviews and Hans Ulrich Obrist‘s Interview Project, our aim is to build the largest repositories of scholarly interviews on the web. This year, we had the pleasure to converse with such renowned scholars as Simon Critchley, John Searle, Alphonso Lingis and Douglas Kellner; made it to the finals at a number of social media and online publishing awards; came in 1st place at the Canadian Weblog Awards, and received powerful endorsements from key scholars, academics and intellectuals. We have also steadily grown our readership base – reaching +12,000 clicks in December. 2013 will witness an intensification of our activities – with new artist and corporate series currently under way – as well as the launching our interdisciplinary e-journal.

At present, Figure/Ground is currently on the outlook for a book and events editor that can help us launch and develop this new F/G segment. For more details about duties, benefits and responsibilities contact Laureano Ralon laureano[at]alumni.sfu.ca with a resume and mini bio.
