A post-doctoral Research Officer in Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence/Philosophy of Cognitive Science is being recruited for Dr Alexandria Boyle’s Episodic Memory: Uniquely Human? (EMUH) project, funded by a UK Research & Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship. The post will be based in the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences (CPNSS), which promotes research into philosophical, methodological and foundational questions concerning science.

This position is for a post-doctoral researcher with expertise in philosophy of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. The position is tenable for two years. The successful candidate will conduct innovative and significant research as part of the EMUH team, including working closely and collaboratively with Dr Boyle and other members of the EMUH project, including scientific collaborators at other institutions.

Whilst the Research Officer will make contributions across the breadth of the project, their work will primarily be focussed on its ‘artificial intelligence’ strand, conducting research into philosophical and theoretical issues surrounding artificial implementations of episodic memory.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have strong research interests in the philosophy of artificial intelligence and cognitive science.

  • Be willing to work harmoniously and closely with other members of the EMUH team, including external collaborators.

Ideally, the successful applicant will begin in January 2023 and no later than July 2023.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
