Native or near-native fluency in German and English, Ph.D. (or international equivalent) in hand at the time of application in German Studies or related fields (including but not limited to History, Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Media Studies) is required. Area of specialization is open. We are particularly interested in applicants with advanced professional experience.

We are looking for candidates with a distinct cross-disciplinary profile in German Studies whose scholarly work thinks about interrelations of (two or more) areas such as literature, history, politics, music, history of science, environment and climate, race and ethnicity, migration and multilingualism, media and performance. Excellence in language teaching is a prerequisite. Opportunities for professional development, including language pedagogy, are available.

The teaching load is five courses (3-2) per year. The faculty we are looking for will demonstrate a vigorous and active commitment to scholarship, be eager to work closely and collaboratively with others, and will engage with enthusiasm in undergraduate teaching at a small liberal arts college.

We welcome candidates who are excited to collaboratively reimagine German Studies’ canons, materials, and approaches of study. As part of this reconfiguration, the position(s) will entail sustained participation in curriculum development as well as student and teaching exchange across two campuses: Bard College Annandale and Bard College Berlin.
