Assistant or Associate Professor (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications.  The expected start date is July 1, 2023.  Area of specialization (AOS): History of Philosophy, broadly construed to include any philosophical tradition.  Area of competence (AOC): open, but the ability to teach a range of courses in our curriculum is desirable.  Duties include research, both undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervision of MA students, and administrative service.  The normal teaching load is 2/2 (two courses per semester for two 13-week semesters). Excellence in research and teaching are the primary criteria for this position.  The candidates will, depending on rank, have developed or demonstrate the potential for developing:

• a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience;
• a successful research program;
• excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level;
• successful supervision of graduate (masters-level) students.

Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications. Assistant Professor is considered a junior faculty position; candidates must have completed their PhD in Philosophy or equivalent by the start date of appointment or shortly thereafter; only those eligible to be appointed or promoted to the rank will be considered.  For Associate Professor, only those holding or expected to hold the rank at the start of the employment will be considered.
