Job description

Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track - Philosophy and Religious Studies - 18942 

ATTENTION: 

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Ethics and Applied Ethics beginning August 2023. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in Philosophy and the capstone course in the General Education program, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and should include Normative and Applied Ethics. 

JOB DETAILS: 

The teaching load for this position is 4/4. In addition to teaching Philosophy courses and the capstone course in the General Education program, World of Ideas, the successful candidate will be expected to oversee our Interdisciplinary Ethics Certificate and contribute to the Liberal Studies program administered by the department and help advise Liberal Studies majors. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda, contribute to campus, professional, and public service, and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Candidates are encouraged to have a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of application. ABD candidates may apply, but must complete their degree by the contract start date in August 2023. We seek a colleague with a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and an active research agenda that complements existing faculty strengths. AOS: Normative Ethics and Applied Ethics. AOC: Open. Candidates who can teach Environmental Ethics and our “Truth in the Media” course preferred.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION: 

The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department administers the Philosophy minor, the World Religions minor, and the Liberal Studies major and minor. We have seven full-time faculty or academic staff members and an Academic Department Associate. The College of Letters and Sciences forms the core of the University, providing students with the essential elements of a liberal education in humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.
