Job description

Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religion tenure track position. Atlanta Metropolitan State College currently serves nearly 3000 commuting students at its main campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts offers the Associate of Arts Degree in English, Music, Speech, Art, Mass Communications, General Studies, and Foreign Language (Spanish and/or French).

This full- time ten-month, tenure track faculty position reports to the Chair of the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts. Teaching assignments typically include Religion and Philosophy courses taught at the freshman and sophomore levels, although other courses (e.g., Thinking, Learning and Communicating in Contemporary Society) will be assigned. The candidate would be expected to assist with the implementation and growth of curriculum and design of a new Certificate in Religious Studies, and must have a history of effective teaching at the collegiate level and possess knowledge of educational technologies (e.g., Web-based and/or Web-enhanced instruction). The position also requires coordinating the institution's critical thinking CORE curriculum course component.Other duties include serving on division and college committees,advising students, providing student support,and assisting in the development and improvement of the Humanities and Fine Arts curriculum.

A Ph.D.Degree is required with eighteen graduate semester hours (thirty-quarter hours) in Philosophy and Religion with credit hours in upper level courses. Preference will be given to applicants who also have expertise and experience with on-line instruction as well as eighteen graduate semester hours (thirty-quarter hours) and/or certification in a related discipline (e.g., Rhetoric, English, literature or humanities). The successful candidate should possess the ability and desire to provide quality instruction to students with diverse backgrounds while effectively collaborating and cooperating with other members of the faculty, staff, and administration.
