Summary:
Founded in 1914, Johnson & Wales University is a recognized leader in career education with approximately 17,000 students representing nearly 100 countries. The university offers 40+ undergraduate, graduate, online, continuing education and accelerated programs in arts & sciences, business, culinary arts, hospitality, technology and education.
Adjunct online faculty members develop and deliver relevant and current curriculum online using a variety of teaching methods and standardized tools available through ulearn (the university's Blackboard system), ensuring that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives and successfully complete courses as outlined in course syllabi. Adjunct course teaching assignments are made term-by-term and are based on the scheduling needs of enrolled students. The university is seeking adjunct faculty to teach online courses in economics, life science, sociology, philosophy, psychology, Spanish, accounting, criminal justice, and hospitality law.
Essential Job Functions:
- Delivers relevant content, learning activities, and assessments online according to JWU course outlines and online course delivery standards
- Measures student understanding of course content
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement, and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
- Posts a syllabus that uses the university-approved syllabus template
- Responds in a timely fashion (24 hours or less) to requests for information and/or action from students and university administrators
- Communicates early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
- Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career development, etc
- Collaborates in developing, maintaining, improving and innovating courses and their content, learning activities, and assessments
- Attends meetings and/or conference calls and participates in faculty orientation to teaching online
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline closely related to the university's undergraduate programs
- Experience with teaching courses online
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with teaching courses online using Blackboard
