VAP in Health Humanities and Society (EXPIRED)

The Reilly Center for Science, Technology and Values at the University of Notre Dame seeks to fill a visiting assistant professorship in Health, Humanities and Society. The successful applicant will teach in our Health, Humanities and Society (HHS) undergraduate minor and contribute to the intellectual life of the Center. HHS is an interdisciplinary minor that approaches medicine as not just a biological science, but also a sphere of economic activity, a cultural practice, and a humanistic science. The program seeks to prepare students both for careers in health-related fields as well as encounters with the healthcare system. 

We seek candidates who can teach a survey on the US healthcare system as well as courses deriving from their own research interests. The position also entails undergraduate research advising. The teaching load is 2/2. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility for renewal. 

The Reilly Center is a dynamic interdisciplinary center fostering research and education on issues at the intersection of medicine, science, technology, environment and society. We host three undergraduate and two graduate programs, and provide an interdisciplinary platform for fostering research and innovative teaching. 

Qualifications:

A PhD in the history, sociology, anthropology or philosophy of medicine, STS or in a related field. Demonstrated teaching experience and commitment to advising. ABD candidates will be considered, though PhD in hand is preferred.
