Keble College and the Faculty of Philosophy are recruiting an Associate Professor (or Professor) of Ethics and Moral Psychology from 1st October 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. We are looking for someone with a proven record of internationally recognised scholarship and research in ethics appropriate to their career stage who can provide a high standard of research-led teaching to undergraduates and graduates. The successful candidate will be joining the largest group of philosophers in the UK, and one of the largest in the world, as well as a thriving and inter-disciplinary college community. The appointment will be made in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Keble College. In the College you will share oversight in the provision of philosophy teaching to undergraduate students at Keble, you will share in the admission and pastoral care of students studying degrees involving philosophy and you will contribute to the effective running and governance of the College as a member of the Governing Body. For the Faculty, you will deliver 16 lectures or classes per year, will be able to offer lectures and graduate classes in Ethics and Moral Psychology, and will supervise graduate students, participate in examining, and play a full and active role in Faculty administration. You will be expected to pursue advanced study or research and enhance your international reputation. The successful candidate should have an area of specialisation in Ethics and at least an area of competence in Moral Psychology. You should have a completed doctorate, or a completed doctoral dissertation submitted for examination by the advertised closing date for this position, in Philosophy, or a closely related field. You should have a research record in Ethics of international standing appropriate to your career stage, with evidence of potential for producing further research distinguished in its originality, significance, and rigour. The essential criteria also include experience of teaching philosophy in a range of formats, to both undergraduates and graduates, and an ability to provide high-quality graduate supervision. You will have excellent communication skills and show evidence of an ability and willingness to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues in the Faculty and College as well as a commitment to undertake administration. If you would like to discuss this post and find out more about joining the academic community at Oxford, please contact Ali Rogers, Senior Tutor at Keble College ([email protected]) or Professor Ursula Coope, Chair of the Philosophy Faculty Board ([email protected]). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision. The closing date for applications is 12:00 (UK time) on 15th December 2022. Applications are to be made online. Please see the Further Particulars for full details of the role and information on how to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford. |
