Job Summary The Department of English and Philosophy seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of philosophy, to begin Fall 2023. We invite applications from energetic and innovative scholar-teachers who fit this profile:
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research that suggests new and lasting approaches to the field. The faculty member will collaborate with interested colleagues in the department and across the college and university. Applicants should also show interest or experience in pursuing grants in research and/or in teaching opportunities. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in their area(s) of expertise, along with introductory courses in the undergraduate program. There is opportunity to design and deliver new courses that contribute to our programs. Drexel’s academic calendar is built on 10-week quarters; this position carries a 5-course annual teaching load (e.g., 2-2-1), with the expectation of significant scholarship. A lower teaching load may be negotiated during the first years of the appointment. Located within the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of English and Philosophy is home to undergraduate majors in English, Philosophy, and PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics). The Philosophy BA includes concentrations in Ethical Theory and Practice; Philosophy and Law; and Philosophy, Science, and Technology. The program also offers a minor in Philosophy as well as certificates in in Health and Medical Humanities; Ethical Theory and Practice; Philosophy, Arts, and Humanities; and Philosophy, Science, and Technology. The department has a strong record of civic engagement through community-based learning and other initiatives. Its emphasis on hands-on, applied learning opportunities results in strong career preparation for its students. The department features a strong commitment to antiracist pedagogy and practice.
