Job description

Position Description  

The History and Philosophy program in the School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy, with an emphasis on the Philosophy of Race, broadly construed, and/or Social and Political Philosophy. The ideal candidate may work at the intersection of these research areas and will be prepared to supervise doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate work. The philosophy faculty offer a B.A. in Philosophy and contribute to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in the History of Ideas and in the Humanities.

The successful candidate is one whose work emphasizes one or more underrepresented geographical areas in philosophy (e.g., African/Africana Philosophy, Arabic and Islamic Philosophy, South Asian Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, or Native American Philosophy) through traditions such as Postcolonial Theory, Decolonial Theory, or Gender Theory. The successful candidate may also contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary research centers on campus, such as the Center for U.S.-Latin America Initiatives, the Center for Asian Studies, and the Center for Translation Studies, or to our interdisciplinary programs such as the African American and African Diaspora Studies minor, the M.A. in Latin American Studies, and the Gender Studies minor. Teaching experience in the some of the areas listed is preferred.

The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Duties include active research, graduate supervision, normal committee service, and classroom teaching at all levels. Salary and research budget are competitive.
