Job description |
We are looking for a colleague with a research expertise that resonates with the research profiles of our groups. We expect the new colleague to develop a research line that brings together topics in the history of European philosophy (where we are particularly interested in strengthening our expertise in medieval and/or Renaissance philosophy) and in Islamic philosophy (here, we are open as to the specific area of expertise). The specific research focus can be negotiated according to the new colleague’s expertise. With regard to teaching, the new colleague is expected to contribute to introductory courses in both the Islamic and Arabic studies and the philosophy programmes (examples: “Introduction to Islam”; “Qur’an and Hadith”, “History of philosophy: Medieval and early modern philosophy”; “The place of humans in the natural order”; “History of metaphysics”), and to MA-courses. The candidate appointed to this position will be expected, in due course, to be able to teach in Dutch and English. About the organization This position is in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, which hosts the History of Philosophy group and the Islamic and Arabic Studies group. In this position you will be affiliated with both of these groups, participating with colleagues from both groups in educational programmes and research collaborations. Both groups offer a dynamic, research-oriented environment with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development. Offer We offer a full-time position (1.0 FTE). Upon positive evaluation during the one-year probationary period, the appointment becomes permanent. The allocation is permanently set to 40% research and 60% teaching. Within the 60% for teaching, there is 10% free space that will not be scheduled. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €3,974 and €6,181 (scale 11-12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
