Lecturer, Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, Continuing Full Time position at Macquarie University (Sydney)

PRIMARY DETAILS
-Salary Package: Lecturer (Level B), Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence (PhD), from $110,274 to $130,472, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
- Appointment Type: Continuing, Full Time

THE ROLE
We are seeking to appoint an innovative teaching and research academic to join the Department of Philosophy, Macquarie University. The successful candidate will teach directly into the new Major and Masters in Artificial Intelligence in the Faculty of Science and add capacity to the Philosophy Department?s teaching and research in this area.

You will be expected to develop, convene, and teach units at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in your areas of expertise. Current teaching needs include the new Major and Masters in Artificial Intelligence in the Faculty of Science, as well as teaching in Philosophy. You will also lead and collaborate on research projects in the ethics and philosophy of AI and technology, while supervising Higher Degree Research students.
The successful candidate will increase research and teaching consilience by joining existing researchers in the Philosophy department working on the ethics, policy and philosophy of AI and new technologies, such as Distinguished Professor Wendy Rogers, Professor Paul Formosa (Head of Department), Professor Wendy Lipworth, Associate Professor Mark Alfano, Dr Oisin Deery and Dr Katrina Hutchison. The Macquarie University Research Centre for Agency, Values and Ethics (CAVE) is also located in the Philosophy Department, and you will have the opportunity to play an active role in the ongoing work of CAVE and in achieving ERA ratings in Applied Ethics and Philosophy.

This is a full time (1.0 FTE) position, with a standard 40% research, 40% teaching and 20% service load.

You will have a demonstrated track record of exceptional teaching and research practice, with expertise in teaching the Philosophy or Ethics of Artificial Intelligence or closely related topics. You will be able to collaboratively contribute to the ongoing success of delivering the Department of Philosophy?s research and teaching goals. Philosophers with expertise in the philosophy and ethics of AI and new technologies are encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include: digital technologies; automated decision-making; gender and technology; AI and agency; AI and cognition; AI and epistemology; and ethical AI.
