Job description |
The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg seeks applications for a one-year (12 months) postdoc. The position is available through the FWF-funded project 'Categoricity by Convention' (P33708), running from July 2021 to June 2025. The project members are Prof. Julien Murzi (PI) and Dr Brett Topey (postdoc). The focus of the project is developing and defending a moderate inferentialist metasemantics that can explain how logical and mathematical terms get their intended meanings (for more information, see https://www.categoricitybyconvention.org/). The relevant AOSs are philosophy of logic, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of language. The annual salary is 56.861 Euro, as detailed in the "Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmer/innen der Universitäten". The starting date is 1 October 2023 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The main tasks of the appointee will be research on the themes of the project (or closely related themes), teaching one course (in English or German), and organising a workshop (together with the other project members), to be held in June 2024. The appointee will also have the opportunity to apply for a major research grant with Prof. Murzi. The successful applicant will have a PhD in philosophy, logic, or a related area before the beginning of the appointment and will have a strong research record commensurate with career stage. Knowledge of German is not required. We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply. The appointee will join a vibrant philosophy community of permanent members of staff as well as postdocs, PhD students, and visiting scholars. Yearly events include a colloquium series with international speakers as well as various other activities such as workshops, conferences, reading groups, and summer schools. Applications should be sent to MSc. Kathrin Hommel (kathrin DOT hommel AT plus DOT ac DOT at) and should include a cover letter addressing the applicant's academic background and research interests, a writing sample (max. 10.000 words), a CV (including a list of publications), and a research statement (max. 2 pages). Reference letters may be required at a later stage. The closing date for applications is 31 March 2023. Interviews will be held in May. Contact for informal inquiries: Prof. Julien Murzi (julien DOT murzi AT plus DOT ac DOT at). |
