Job description |
The University Honors Program at the George Washington University seeks a temporary part-time instructor for on-campus Honors courses in Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024. Instructor Qualifications: PhD or ABD Course: HONR 1015 and/or 1016 - Origins and Evolution of Modern Thought Class Meetings: Exact schedule if flexible based on instructor availability. In Fall 2023, HONR 1015 is a 4-credit course which meets twice a week for 75 minutes plus one additional 50 minute "writing lab" (which is typically scheduled immediately before or after one of the regular class meetings). In Spring 2024, HONR 1016 is a 3-credit course which meets twice a week for 75 minutes. Enrollment: 15-18 undergraduates Location:Mount Vernon Campus, 2100 Foxhall Rd, NW, Washington DC 20007. This course is taught on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus (MVC), which is easily accessible via campus shuttle from Foggy Bottom. Parking is also available on the MVC. Salary: Fall 2023: $5,414 (HONR 1015 - 4 credits), Spring 2024: $4,873 (HONR 1016 - 3 credits) Course Description: This is a course for first-year University Honors Program students at GWU. The course immerses students in an exploration of significant exemplars, milestones and developments of human thought, studying foundational thought and texts of the ancient world in the Fall, moving to modernity in the Spring. There is much flexibility within the topic, provided the course engages students in critical thinking by discussing and debating fundamental and enduring questions of the human condition that have been posed by key thinkers. Course Format: This discussion-based seminar is writing intensive, with required writing instruction, drafts, and student peer review in the Fall. Expectations: Instructors are expected to challenge our excellent students while also providing a supportive and caring environment in which every member of our diverse student body feels welcome.
