Job description

The Department of Philosophy and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invite applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in 2023-24. Candidates should have research expertise in feminist philosophy and/or philosophy of gender and sexuality, with a strong preference for non-ideal approaches and for research that is significantly grounded in traditionally underrepresented philosophical traditions (e.g., queer/trans, Latinx, Latin American, Africana, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, disability studies, etc.). The successful candidate will be able to teach courses for the Graduate Certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (e.g., Foundations of Women’s Studies, Feminist Methods, Theoretical Approaches to Gender) as well as upper-level undergraduate courses in Philosophy.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in philosophy or a related discipline at the time of appointment and provide evidence of potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is preferred, but not required. The teaching load for this position is three courses per semester. It is preferred to have the ability to teach evening classes.

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to provide an official transcript of their highest earned degree and submit to a criminal background check.
