The team at the University of Central Florida leading the NSF-funded project Institutional Transformation: Intersections of Moral Foundations and Ethics Frameworks in STEM Enculturation (NSF 2024296) seeks candidates for a two-year Postdoctoral Scholar (renewable by year) to begin August 2023.

The Opportunity:

The team at the University of Central Florida leading the NSF-funded project Institutional Transformation: Intersections of Moral Foundations and Ethics Frameworks in STEM Enculturation (NSF 2024296) seeks candidates for a two-year Post Doctoral Scholar (renewable by year) to begin August 2023. 

The Post Doctoral Scholar will advance goals of the research project while working with our interdisciplinary co-PI team of faculty from philosophy, writing & rhetoric, psychology, and chemistry/optics. Our team examines the extent to which individual values intersect with disciplinary value frameworks in the process of disciplinary enculturation including recruitment, retention, and identification in STEM. Responsibilities:

As a member of the research team, the Post Doctoral Scholar may coordinate research participants, conducting interviews, analyzing data using mixed methods techniques and tools, developing theoretical framing of the work, and/or leading scholarly writing related to the project. The Post Doctoral Scholar will be provided access to institutional resources, office space, and support for travel for research presentations.  

The Post Doctoral Scholar will also advance institutional transformation goals of the project as an affiliate of the UCF Center for Ethics. The Center for Ethics leads programming, develops research, and builds relationships to advance community engagement with ethics, in line with Center’s mission to cultivate an institutional culture of ethics literacy. As an affiliate with the Center, the Post Doctoral Scholar will participate in Center programming and activities, collaborate on ethics research, and be supported in advancing their own research projects. Research activities will include funded research proposal development, scholarly writing and research, and/or conference presentation of research results. The postdoctoral scholar may also coordinate research-related activities with another postdoctoral scholar that will work on the funded project and be affiliated with the UCF Center for Writing Excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in a relevant field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

A candidate with preferred qualifications will bring a cross-section of skills and experience including:

  • research experience in ethics, moral psychology, philosophy, and/or ethics education;
  • ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team;
  • strong communication and writing skills;
  • basic knowledge of or interests in mixed methods research techniques; and/or,
  • a Ph.D. in Philosophy with AOS in normative or applied ethics.

This is a full-time position supported by active grant funding. This position is renewable annually for up to two years.
