Job description

The College of St. Scholastica Philosophy Program invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We prefer an applicant who can begin in January 2024. However, we are open to receiving applications from applicants who cannot begin until August 2024 as well. Area of specialization is Open. Preferred area(s) of competence are one or more of the following: history of philosophy (particularly Ancient, Early Modern, or 19th/20th Century), environmental ethics, or political philosophy.

Our program particularly welcomes applicants who, in addition to competence in at least one of the areas above, have an interest in working with interdisciplinary programs and expertise in any of the following: philosophy of science, philosophy of race, philosophy of medicine, philosophy of law, or business ethics. Our program values diversity among its faculty, including religious diversity, and strongly encourages applications from those historically underrepresented in the field. Our program is small and pluralistic. We are interested in an applicant who could help grow our major and teach various courses while advancing their research agenda and contributing to the department and program goals. The teaching load is 3/3 with standard non-teaching service and research expectations.

A completed Ph.D. in Philosophy, demonstrated teaching excellence, and a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education are required.
