Job description

Nine department funded PhD studentships are available from 1 September 2013 at the University of Jyväskylä Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The call is tied to the following nine themes, of which the applicant must choose one. Potentially any but especially themes 1) and 2) are relevant to philosophy students. Other possible disciplines include political science, sociology, social and public policy and social work. 

1) Historical theories of agency and selfhood
2) Agency in critical social theory
3) Civic action and civil society
4) Cultural citizenship, participation and cultural policies

5) Post-colonial citizenship, civil society and justice 
6) Sustainable development, climate change, technological risks and environmental activism
7) Social problems, social welfare and service systems
8) Women's employment, care policy and local welfare services
9) Labour ethnography of work migrants in Finland 
Masters degree is required by the start date. The PhD students need to know English but no Finnish.
