CPNSS Research Award (EXPIRED)

The Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science (CPNSS) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is offering up two CPNSS Research Awards to researchers preparing a major grant proposal. CPNSS Research Awards are intended to be seed grants. The successful applicant will get up to £8000 to support the writing and submission of a grant application. The project should be broadly in the area of philosophy, but in line with the Centre's interdisciplinary mission we welcome applications involving other disciplines. The award can be used to buy out the applicant's time, cover replacement teaching, and/or pay a research assistant. While writing, the successful applicant is welcome to stay at the Centre as a visitor.

Applications are accepted from scholars at all ranks and degrees of seniority. For young researchers mentoring by a senior member of the LSE philosophy community can be made available.

Grant applications developed with the help of this award must be made through CPNSS and, if successful, the grant will be held by CPNSS. The successful researcher is expected to carry out the research in situ at LSE. Applications should have a multiplier of at least 10 (meaning that an application that is supported with a seed grant of, say, £7000 should be worth at least £70,000 if successful). It is acknowledged that not all applications are successful, but applications must be submitted on the agreed deadline. Failure to do so is considered a breach of agreement and it is expected that the support received will be repaid.

2.    Project outline containing:

• A short project description (ca. 500 words)
• A list of grants for which an application may be made and the deadlines at which applications will be submitted.
• A budget detailing how the money will be used
