Job Summary
This short term position will begin August 14, 2013 and end May 9, 2014.

Working within a learning college environment, this position teaches Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Logic, and Biomedical Ethics to an ethnically and culturally diverse student population using innovative, collaborative and interactive methods, technology and online instruction.

Essential Functions
50% - Teaches a diverse population of students a minimum of fifteen (15) load hours per semester--a combination of PHI and Logic and Biomedical Ethics in a classroom or lab setting

20% - Develops syllabi and assessment tools, maintains records and monitors student progress, grades papers and assignments

15% - Meets with students during office hours; works with students out of class; keeps department and college hours of accountability

10% - Participates in committee assignments, department, college and district meetings and projects

5% - Participates in professional development through courses, research, professional workshops and conferences

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in the teaching field or a Master's in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or graduate semester hours in the teaching field, or a Master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field
  • EDU250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within two (2) years of date of hire

Desired Qualifications

  • One (1) or more years of experience teaching in a community college setting within the last four (4) years
  • Experience teaching Intro to Logic, Intro to Philosophy and other PHI classes
  • Experience in developing and offering courses that interface with Science and Mathematics in Liberal Arts
  • Experience working within a team environment (environmentally and interdepartmentally)
  • Experience in service and outreach to students in an educational environment and the community
  • Experience in working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of a Learning College

Special Working Conditions
May be required to teach evening, weekend and/or online classes; may require lifting objects up to 25 lbs.
