Salary/Position Classification
Purpose of Position The Department of Philosophy and Ethics invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Ethics to begin in August 2024, contingent on availability of funding. Areas of Specialization: Philosophy of Technology with an emphasis on the ethics of emerging technologies (esp. artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, data science, autonomous systems, unmanned aircraft systems, surveillance technologies, and/or persuasive technologies, etc.), Ethical Theory, and Applied Ethics (esp. Ethics in Engineering and Science, Data Science Ethics, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Ethics). The department is particularly interested in candidates whose approach to questions concerning technology and ethics is informed by the history of philosophy and diverse philosophical perspectives. This position carries a 3/2 teaching load in addition to serving as the Director of a new interdisciplinary graduate program in Human-Computer Interaction (the normal teaching load for department faculty members is 3/3). The successful candidate will teach in-person on campus and asynchronous online courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, maintain a robust research agenda, and participate in shared faculty governance and service. |
