Salary: £24,766 to £36,298per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £27,854 per annum with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this range is subject to performance.
Applications are invited for the above post in the Centre for Applied Bioethics (CAB) based at the Sutton Bonington Campus, University of Nottingham. Working within the FP7 EU EST-Frame (Integrated assessment methods for measuring impacts of emerging scientific and technological developments) project, the successful applicant will be working on (with others at CAB) an analysis of assessment methods applied to new and emerging science and technologies, specifically focusing on biofuels as a case study. This project will examine technology assessment approaches providing both a broad appraisal of these tools and a specific assessment for a biofuels case study. Methods will include documentary and web-based analysis, a small number of face-to-face interviews with a range of stakeholders and stakeholder workshops, held in the UK and Belgium. This project involves working with project partners from across Europe, specifically: Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (NOR); Wageningen University and Research Center; Danish Board of Technology (DK); and Fraunhofer ISI (GER). Further information can be found at: Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent, in bioethics, science and technology studies (STS), or philosophy and have postgraduate training in qualitative research methods, (consideration will be given to applicants almost at completion of a PhD or equivalent) They will have knowledge of philosophical or social scientific work on science and technology, ideally related to technology assessment, ethics and science policy. The successful candidate will have an understanding of, or an interest in bioenergy and experience of evaluating technology assessment approaches. They will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Duties will include writing of reports and publication of research outcomes in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates must also be able to: plan their own work and deliver to targets; be able to prioritise workload and work independently and as part of a team; and have good communication and interpersonal skills. This full-time post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 1 year.
