Assistant Professor Requisition ID: 2023-7045 # of Openings: 1 Location: US-UT-Logan Category: Faculty Position Type: Benefited Full-Time Job Classification: Faculty College: College of Humanities & Social Sci Department: Communication Studies & Philosophy Advertised Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits Overview The Philosophy Program in the Department of Communication Studies and Philosophy at Utah State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy starting in August of 2024. The position is tenure-track, academic-year, 9-month, full-time, with full benefits, and teaching intensive (three courses per semester). Responsibilities Teach three courses each fall semester and each spring semester; engage in research and general scholarship, whether professional or public-oriented; engage in service at the university, in the community, and in academic philosophy. At the time of tenure and promotion candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, and effectiveness in both research and service. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • PhD in philosophy by August 2024 (ABD will be considered) Candidates who are ABD will be hired as an Instructor. • Area of specialization: history of philosophy, especially ancient and medieval • Areas of competence: applied ethics, ethics • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching ancient philosophy, social ethics, and other topics in applied ethics Preferred Qualifications: • Active interest in publicly engaged philosophy Required Documents Required Documents: • Curriculum Vitae (to be uploaded to the candidate profile) • Evidence of teaching effectiveness which might include student and colleague evaluations, syllabi of courses taught, and any teaching awards or other commendations received (to be uploaded to the candidate profile) • Cover letter (to be copied and pasted into a fillable form within the application) • Teaching statement addressing your approach to teaching (to be copied and pasted into a fillable form within the application), noting how your teaching approach is particularly suited to supporting the success of a wide range of students • The names and email addresses of three professional references.
