Overview

The Philosophy Program in the Department of Communication Studies and Philosophy at Utah State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy starting in August of 2024. The position is tenure-track, academic-year, 9-month, full-time, with full benefits, and teaching intensive (three courses per semester).

Responsibilities

Teach three courses each fall semester and each spring semester; engage in research and general scholarship, whether professional or public-oriented; engage in service at the university, in the community, and in academic philosophy. At the time of tenure and promotion candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, and effectiveness in both research and service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD in philosophy by August 2024 (ABD will be considered) Candidates who are ABD will be hired as an Instructor.

• Area of specialization: history of philosophy, especially ancient and medieval

• Areas of competence: applied ethics, ethics

• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching ancient philosophy, social ethics, and other topics in applied ethics

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active interest in publicly engaged philosophy
