The department of philosophy is conducting an open search, with respect to subject matter, for a full-time associate/full professor of philosophy. Required: Demonstrated record of publication, teaching excellence, and academic service and leadership commensurate with rank. AOS: Open AOC: Open The Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is a world leader in research, teaching, and public engagement. Faculty in the College create knowledge, address critical societal needs through the transfer and application of knowledge, and prepare students for lives of impact in the state, nation, and world. To meet these objectives, the College embraces and values diversity and difference through hiring faculty candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the Illinois community. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with appropriate neighboring departments, when relevant to their research, which may include classics, computer science, economics, fine arts, history, law, linguistics, the natural sciences, psychology, political science or other fields. Successful candidates with interests at the intersection of philosophy and AI/technology will be expected to contribute to the new Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Philosophy, seated in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This program maintains strong connections to the University of Illinois’s Computer Science Department, seated in the Grainger School of Engineering. Qualifications: Ph.D in philosophy or a related discipline and evidence of ability to contribute significantly to the department and discipline through research, teaching, service, leadership, and public engagement. Duties: normally, two courses per semester (one introductory or intermediate and one advanced); independent study and thesis supervision; the establishment and maintenance of an active and independent research program; committee assignments; and related service, leadership and public engagement activities as needed.
