Description of Department:

The Philosophy Department at SUNY Oswego is a collegial, productive department with a Philosophy major and minor, a Philosophy-Psychology joint major, a new Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major, and a Logic minor. The Philosophy Department at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Assistant Professor in Philosophy. Area of Specialization: Ethics.

Description of Responsibilities: Area of Specialization: Ethics. Area of Competence: Open.

The Assistant Professor of Philosophy will have a strong research trajectory in ethics, as well as relevant teaching experience in applied areas such as business ethics, philosophy of law, or medical ethics. In addition to these, the Assistant Professor may teach a variety of courses within the department, including social/political philosophy, philosophy and feminism, and courses which serve to broaden the diversity of the curriculum of our department (e.g., philosophy of race). The successful candidate will also serve a leadership role in our department's service to other programs. Student advising, working with students on improving writing skills, and university service are also expected.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Philosophy at time of appointment. Strong research trajectory in ethics. Relevant teaching experience in ethics and applied ethics. Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to teach a variety of courses, such as business ethics, social/political philosophy, philosophy and feminism, and courses which serve to broaden the diversity of the curriculum of our department, such as philosophy of race.
